AFP chief: PH kayang idepensa kahit walang US troop

Kumpiyansa si Armed Forces chief of staff General Filemon Santos Jr. na kayang mag-survive ng mi­litar kahit tinapos na ng administrasyong Duterte ang Visi­ting For­ces Agreement (VFA) sa pagitan ng Pilipinas at Amerika.

Ginawa ni Santos ang pahayag matapos ipadala ng gobyerno ang notice of termination ng VFA sa US Embassy noong Martes.

“We will support the President’s decision. That’s a poli­tical decision, we’ll support it and we will live without VFA,” pahayag ni Santos matapos kumpirmahin ng Commission on Appointments (CA) ang kanyang pagkakata­laga bilang AFP chief.

“We have lived before noong nawala ang bases agreement noong 1991 hanggang 1997. Wala namang nangyari sa atin,” dagdag nito.

Ayon kay Santos, may kagamitan naman ang AFP para idepensa ang Pilipinas sa mga kaaway.

“It’s not actually naman kawalan because as of now you could say we have already some equipment, we have planes, we have ships. ‘Yun ngang barko natin dinala sa Oman,” sabi ni Santos. (Dindo Matining)
