Umusad sa Kamara matapos aprubahan sa ikalawang pagbasa ang House Bill 8733 o ‘Comprehensive Nuclear Regulation Act’.

Pakay ng panukala ang pagkakaroon ng komprehensibong nuclear regulatory framework at pagbuo ng Philippine Nuclear Regulatory Commission (PNRC).

“It declares that the State shall (a) harness the peaceful uses of nuclear energy, (b) recognize the potential harmful effects of ionizing radiation, (c) protect the society and the environment, (d) establish a legal and regulatory framework for the regulation and control of the peaceful uses of nuclear resources, (e) manage radioactive waste, and (f) establish a legal and regulatory framework to prevent, detect, and respond to unauthorized activities involving nuclear materials,” nakasaad sa panukala.

Isa si dating Pangulo at ngayo’y House Speaker Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo sa pangunahing nag-akda ng panukala.

Ang itatatag na PNRC ay pamumunuan ng isang Commissioner na itatalaga ng Presidente ng bansa. Aalayan ito ng apat na Deputy Commissioner.

“Violators of this proposed Act shall be penalized with imprisonment of at most five years, and/or a fine ranging from P1 million to P5 million,” batay pa sa panukala. (Aries Cano)
