Isang beses lang nagtagpo ang Ginebra at NLEX sa eliminations ng PBA Governors Cup, noong Oct. 5 at nanalo ang Gin Kings 106-92.

Sa larong ‘yun ay umiskor ang Ginebra ve­teran na si Mark Caguioa ng 16 para maging pang-15 local member ng PBA 10,000-point club.

Mamayang gabi sa Smart Araneta Coliseum din, muling magku-krus ang landas ng Gins at Road Warriors sa quarterfinals.

Tinapos ng Ginebra ang 11-game eliminations bilang top seed, No. 8 ang NLEX.

Dalawang panalo ang kailangan ng Road Warriors para patalsikin ang two-time defending champions.

Hindi basta-basta ang Road Warriors, lalo’t si Yeng Guiao ang nagtitimon.

“I think we all coaches try to avoid certain coaches we wanna play in the playoffs,” lahad ni coach Tim Cone. “And certainly, Yeng Guiao is one of those coaches you wanna avoid in the playoffs. You know you would be in a tough battle with coach Yeng.”

Sa unang pagtatagpo ay kulang ang tao ni Cone dahil sa injuries, ngayon ay nakabalik na sina Greg Slaughter, Sol Mercado at Art dela Cruz. Nabigyan na rin sila ng mahaba-habang exposure sa 112-93 win ng Gins kontra TNT sa pagtatapos ng eliminations noong Linggo.

Pinag-start ni Cone ang tatlo, tumagal ng 26 minutes si Slaughter, 23 Mercado at 13 kay dela Cruz.

“It’s important for us to get more minutes and more time and play hard with Greg in the lineup and also Sol, and also we started with Art in the lineup,”
paliwanag ni Cone. “Prima­rily because we wanted them extra minutes, have them time as they didn’t have much time this conference.”

Hindi pa makumpirma kung ipapalit na ng NLEX ang original import nilang si Ola Ashaolu kay Aaron Ful­ler.
