Arestado sa mga operatiba ng National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) ang isang doktor dahil sa umanoý pagbebenta online ng overpriced na thermal scanner sa isang undercover agent na napag-alamang mga donasyon pala.
Kinilala ni NBI Director Eric Distor ang suspek na si John Cedric Sarmiento de Castro na isang residente ng Quezon City.
“We are saddened by this incident, because there are medical front liners who passed on in line of duty and here is someone profiteering from this crisis,” sabi ni Distor.
Ang matindi pa, ani Distor, ang mga thermal scanner na binebenta ng suspek ay donasyon ng iba’t ibang indibidwal at mga kompanya sa isang non-government organization na pinamumunuan diumano ng suspek.
Sa ginawang beripikasyon aniya ng NBI Special Action Unit sa Professional Regulation Commission (PRC), nabatid na isang general practitioner ang suspek at hindi isang dermatologist.
“This will served again a warning to profiteers, that we will go after you, and our efforts are doubled to ensure that no one illegal profits from this crisis,” sabi ni Distor.
Ipinahayag naman ni Atty. Emeterio Dongallo, hepe ng NBI Special Action Unit, natagpuan ng mga operatiba sa apartment ng suspek sa 13th Street, Mariana, Quezon City ang 150 thermal scanner na tinangka nitong ibenta sa undercover agent sa halagang P9,350 kada isa.
Ayon kay Dongallo, ipaghaharap ang suspek ng kasong paglabag sa Republic Act No. 7581 dahil sa profiteering at overpricing.
Sa panayam naman sa suspek, inamin nito na donasyon ang mga thermal scanner ng Lions Club chapter sa Quezon City kung saan ay siya diumano ang president.
Itinanggi rin nito na pinagkakakitaan niya ang mga donasyon.
“I decided to sell the donated thermal scanners to convert the proceeds to cash to buy food as well as other essential supplies that I intend to send to Bangar, La Union, where I ran for councilor in the last election,” pahayag pa ng suspek. (Nancy Carvajal)
