Kongreso uungkatin ang Ravena doping scandal

Matapos ilathala ng WADA-accredited laboratory na positibo ang basketball star na si Kiefer Ravena sa tatlong pinagbabawal na substances ng WADA (World Anti-Do­ping Agency) ay nagpasya si Youth and Sports Committee Vice Chairman Chiqui Roa-Puno ng congressional investigation.

Nakapaloob sa im­bestigasyon ang mga batas at regulasyong sumasakop sa bentahan ng dietary supplements na nag­lalaman ng mga substance na mahigpit na ipi­nagbabawal ng WADA sa mga sports competition.

Nakasaad sa House Resolution 1915 na kinakailangang bigyan ng sapat na kaalaman ang mga atleta, coaches, team managers at health professionals sa mga batas at ipi­nagbabawal na substan­ces ng WADA upang maiwasan ang hindi inaasahang pagkonsumo nito.

“WADA’s rules, as well as the agency’s list of banned substances are universally recognized and accepted but not ne­cessarily widely-known. With proper implementation and education, we can effectively prevent our athletes, like Ravena, from unknowingly ingesting prohibited substan­ces which could adversely affect their health and result in their ineligibility to play in their respective sports,” sabi ni Roa-Puno.
