Mga commuter sinisi ng MMDA

Sinisi ng Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) ang mga commuter sa nangyaring pagdagsa ng mga tao sa kalsada noong Lunes hanggang kahapon makaraang isailalim sa general community quarantine ang National Capital Region (NCR) kasama ang Metro Manila.

Ayon kay MMDA General Manager Jose Arturo Garcia, mistulang nawala sa pokus ng publiko dahil nananatiling malaking banta sa kalusugan ang COVID at madali itong makakahawa kapag itinuloy na ang operasyon ng mga transportasyon.

“They were focused on traveling even though they [knew], just as the Department of Transportation said, our first priority is health and safety,” sabi ni Garcia sa a radio interview.

Aniya, batid nila ang pagdagsa at inabot na perwisyo ng mga mananakay noong Lunes hanggang kahapon subalit mas kailangang iprayoridad ang kaligtasan ng mga tao.

“When they saw the free rides, many commented on social media that commuters fought over these, they were on the road, there were no lines. They were each to his own and forgot that the priority is to stay safe from [the coronavirus],” paliwanag ni Garcia.

Kinondena naman ni Ariel Inton, pinuno ng Lawyers for Commuters’ Safety and Protection ang pahayag ni Garcia at sinabi nitong `insensitive’ at mistulang pinalalabas pang mga pasaway at matitigas ang ulo ng mga commuter..

“The only reason they are outside is because we reopened so many businesses, and they would not have gone [out to go to work] if they [had not been] asked,” pahayag ni Inton.
