Pabor si Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte na magbalik sa bansa si Chinese gambling operator Jack Lam.

Gayunpaman binigyang-diin ng Pangulo na kailangang aregluhin ni Lam ang lahat ng mga problemang nilikha nito.

“Okay lang sa akin because he has offered to come back, pay his tax lia­bilities whatever it is. Sabi ko, on the condition that he let go of original contract that let him to enjoy only 1%, sabi ko pareho kayong lahat. Just pay taxes, don’t bribe anybody…,” ani Duterte sa panayam ng media sa groundbreaking ceremony­ ng New Bicol International Airport Terminal sa Legazpi, Albay.

Kinumpirma rin ng Pangulo na nagpaabot ng surrender feelers si Lam.

“Si Jack Lam has sent feelers that he would like to come back. One, because he takes pity of 6,000 plus Filipinos who have jobs… Second is that he will settle his obligations. Third, is that the contract signed during (ex-President Corazon Aquino) Cory’s time… is no longer acceptable to me. He only pays 1%, but the rest of the guys there are paying 10%…,” dagdag ni Duterte.

Wala pa naman umanong kaso na naka­sampa laban kay Lam ­pero mas mainam kung ito ay naaresto.

“I wanted him arrested. Kasi kung naaresto­ ko siya, what will be the case? Economic sabotage, then bribery,” ani Duterte.

Samantala, ipinagtanggol kahapon ng mga kawani ng Department of Transportation (DOTr)­ si Secretary Arthur Tugade kaugnay sa mga alegasyong naging protektor ito ng iligal na operasyon ni Jack Lam.

Sinabi ni Assistant Transportation Secretary at Spokesperson Cherie­ Mercado na kilala niya si Tugade bilang isang ‘upright man’, na galit na galit sa mga katiwalian.
