Sinegundahan ng Malacañang ang naunang pahayag ni Senator Christopher Go hinggil sa franchise ng ABS-CBN na sinasabing nakatakdang mapaso sa Marso 30, 2020.
“As far [President Rodrigo Duterte] is concerned, that issue is in the hands of Congress and he has nothing to do with it. Do their work,” pahayag ni Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo sa press briefing kahapon.
Nauna rito’y nagsalita na rin si Senador Go na dapat aniya’y simulan na ng Kamara ang pagdinig sa franchise application ng nabanggit na network upang agad itong maaprubahan, ma-renew at muling makapag-ere ng karagdagang 25 taon.
Ayon pa kay Panelo ay may ‘say’ ang Congress para ma-grant o ma-revoke ang prangkisa.
“The job of Congress is to pass laws. The job of Congress is to investigate in aid of legislation any matter that affects the national interest and general welfare. That’s their job. One of of their jobs is precisely to deliberate on whether or not to grant franchises or renew franchises,” pagdiriin pa nito. (Prince Golez)
