Idineklara na rin ng administrasyong Duterte ang unilateral ceasefire sa panig ng gobyerno.

Ito ay tugon sa nauna nang ipinahayag na unilateral ceasefire ng Communist Party of the Phi­lippines (CPP) at New People’s Army (NPA) na 7-day ceasefire.

Ang deklarasyon sa restoration ng ceasefire ay inihayag ni Presidential Peace Adviser Jess Dureza kahapon bago tumulak patungong Oslo, Norway para sa isinusulong na usapang pangkapayapaan sa pagitan ng mga rebelde.

“I am pleased to announce that President Rodrigo Duterte has restored the effects of the unilate­ral ceasefire with the CPP-NPA-NDF effective 12 midnight tonight, 21 August, 2016.

The duration of the ceasefire will last for as long as necessary to bring peace in the land and also in order to provide an enabling environment for the success of the peace negotiations that will start in Oslo, Norway on August 22,” pahayag ni Dureza.

Matatandaan na nauna nang nag-isyu ng unilateral ceasefire sa kanyang unang State of the Nation Address (SONA) noong Hulyo 25 si Pangulong Duterte. Pero makalipas ang anim na araw pagsapit ng Hulyo 30 ay binawi niya ito bunsod ng kabiguan ng CPP-NPA-NDF na tumugon.

Bukod naman sa pagpapatupad ng unilateral ceasefire ng magkabilang panig ay nagbigay-daan din sa peace negotiations ang aksyon ni Presidente Duterte sa tinaguriang “unprecedented” at “historical” na pagpapalaya sa 20 political prisoners na kasali sa peace negotia­tions.
