Iginiit ng kampo ni Dr. Bryan Sy ng WellMed Dialysis and Laboratory Center kay Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Menardo Guevarra na palayain ito sa kustodiya ng National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).
Sa ipinadalang liham kay Guevarra ni Atty. Kristjan Vicente Gargantiel, sinabi nito na si Sy ay mahigit 36 oras nang nakadetine nang walang pormal na kasong isinasampa laban sa kanya sa hukuman.
“Up to this date, despite the lapse of 36-hour period provided under Article 125 of the Revised Penal Code, no information nor complaint has been filed with the proper judicial authorities against Mr. Sy,” nakasaad sa liham.
“In view of the foregoing, we respectfully demand for the immediate release of Mr. Sy for these is no ground under any laws, rules or regulations, for his continued detention,” base pa sa liham.
Gayunman, hindi inaksyunan ni Guevarra ang liham ng abogado ni Sy dahil hinihintay pa nito na ilabas ang resolusyon ng DOJ prosecutor kaugnay sa kasong estafa ay falsification of documents na isinampa laban kay Sy at 10 pang opisyal ng WellMed.
Samantala, inihayag ng NBI na nagsasagawa na ito ng imbestigasyon laban sa mga nagbitiw na opisyal ng Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) hinggil sa posibleng pagkakasangkot nila sa ghost dialysis claim scam.
“The NBI is looking into the possibility that certain PhilHealth officials may be charged for violation of the Anti-Graft Law if they knowingly participated in this allegedly fraudulent scheme and benefitted from it,” ayon kay Guevarra.
Nauna nang nagsumite ng courtesy resignation si PhilHealth president at chief executive officer Roy Ferrer gayundin ang anim na board member nito na sina Roberto Salvador, Celestina Dela Serna, Joan Cristine Reina Liban-Lareza, Hildegardes Dineros, Rex Mendoza at Jack Arroyo. (Juliet de Loza-Cudia)
